The case of the disappearing signs began on Monday, Sept. 16, when the Bedford Police Department received a complaint of 12 stolen lawn signs from around town, said Bedford Police Lt. Andrew M Bellantone.

The signs were informational about an upcoming possible residential cell tower in town, police said.

In the following days, the department received more complaints from other associations regarding their signs being stolen, Bellantone said.

Following an investigation, Laurence Seegers of Katonah turned himself in to the Bedford police on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

He was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Police did not say why Seegers was stealing the signs.

Seegers was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 2.

The department said if any person or organization believes their sign was taken and would like it back, they can contact Bedford PD Detectives at (914)241-3111.
